in my continuing obsession with all things southern, here’s the Trustees Theater at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

SCAD(photo from Jules Pieri.)

i absolutely love that the college purchased and restored an old theatre, but kept every element true to its original 1940s style. from the Daily Grommet blog: “The school has a very sophisticated and controlled visual identity in most communications, but it breaks all the rules when it comes to exterior building signage—using whatever signage style is appropriate to the period of the building.”

can we see more of this in toronto, please? this city’s quickly losing all its old theatres. yes, the Bloor West Chapters (which was once the Runnymede Theatre) is still somewhat authentic inside, but outside? that facade just looks like a big box shop.

  1. Hey thanks for noticing my post about Savannah!

I didn’t mention it, but ice cream shop next to the theatre (Leopold’s on left) makes a mean coconut cone.

  2. I’ve been there! Savannah is one of the most gorgeous cities I’ve ever visited. Something about the combination of buildings such as this and the spanish moss that hangs off all the trees and wrought iron fences. Good find! I love the building/concept.
