the McBarge.

with one comment

when terra was visiting a few weeks ago she told me about the McBarge in vancouver—a still-floating ghost ship leftover from Expo ’86. originally called the Friendship 500 Floating Restaurant it was built as a pop-up McDonald’s. then the barge was abandoned when the expo ended and, as terra put it: “just moved into a bay where no one would really see it.”

pretty spooky. apparently there are no plans to move, destroy, or do anything with it—though this barge facebook group suggests a developer bought the property last year. there’s also some images from the interior of McBarge to support this claim, photos which most definitely creep me out. also: i’m really into McDonald’s lore these days, it seems.

(images by tylerimgram and unk’s dump truck, and from save the mcbarge.)
